bullet  General Notes:

Conyngham Corfield was named after the Marquis of Conyngham. He grew up in Donegal, with his family moving back to England when he was fifteen.
He went to St. Catherine's College, Cambridge, 10th September 1869, graduating BA in 1873 and MA in 1876.
He was ordained deacon in 1874 and became curate of Gedling in Northamptonshire. He took over from his father as Rector of Heanor, 1880-86. Whilst at Heanor he was also a tutor at the nearby Spurlings Preparatory School.
In the winter of 1883, due to declining health, Conyngham moved to Menton on the Riviera. He spent the following winter in Bournemouth where he drew up his will.
His doctor advised him that he needed a complete change of climate and was granted one year's leave of absence from Heanor.
Conyngham, his wife and three children left for Australia, sailing from Tilbury and arriving in Melbourne on Christmas Day 1886. On arrival he met the Bishop of Tasmania who after a few hours aquaintance offered him the district of Emu Bay, including Burnie. It was a fairly inaccessible part of the north part of Tasmania.
After eighteen months in Tasmania, knowing that his days were numbered he brought his family back to England.
