bullet  General Notes:

Claud was educated at Trent College, Derby and then St Catherine's College, Cambridge which he entered as a sizar, 10th July 1874, receiving his BA in 1878 and MA in 1881.
Although Claud had gained a first class degree he was too young to be ordained when he left university so he taught at Spurlings (the preparatory school for Wellington College). In 1880 he was ordained deacon in Exeter becoming a priest in the following year. He became chaplain of St Andrew's, Plymouth 1880-82, and then became Hon Canon of Southwell, and vicar of Shirley, Derbyshire 1883-86 on the death of his father. During 1887 he became Chaplain for the 1st Bn Sherwood Foresters (in which Frederick Channer Corfield served) and after that he became Rector of Heanor 1886-1911, succeeding his elder brother and 'handing on' the parish to his younger brother.
Claud was Hon Canon of Southwell , 1910-1911. In 1911 he became Prebendary of Bath and Wells until 1926 and was vicar of Taunton, 1911-1925. In 1921 'The Times' recorded that Claud had dedicated and Lord Bath had unveiled a window at St Mary Magdelene, Taunton for the 250 men of the West Somerset Yeomanry who died in the War. Claud became Proctor in Convocation for the Diocese of Bath and Wells 1924-25.
