Egerton Corfield was educated at St Catherine's College, Cambridge where he was admitted 2nd October 1880. He gained his BA in 1884 and MA in 1888. In 1885 he was ordained a deacon and then went to India as a member of the Church Missionary Society (CMS). Once in India, Egerton became became the Principal of the CMS School at Batala, Punjab, 1885 to 1900 and was ordained a priest in Lahore in 1887.
