Educated at Shrewsbury from 1909-1912.
After leaving school he went with his brother John to Parksville in British Columbia.
Ralph became a Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery and then in the Field Artillery. He was wounded in WWI and after the war went to Canada but returned to England.
His return followed a trapping expedition with the Arctic circle in the neighbourhood of Hudson's Bay. He was luck enough to be rescued by the 'Mounties' and invalided home.
After his marriage he lived at Bozenham Cottage, Ashton near Northampton where he ran a nursery.
During WW2 he served in the Royal Artillery attaining the rank of Major and was a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and a Freeman of the City of London.
