Goff attended the Royal School of Mines, London (1902-1905), studying metallurgy and where he was awarded the Henry Bessemer Medal in 1905. He became Director then Manager of Dillwyn & Company, which he wound up in 1928, the demand for spelter having dropped after 1918.
