Vernon Corfield, a mechanic lived in the Pakanae gorge in the 1940s, with the children going to the local school and spending their weekends at their beach house at Papamoa Beach.
In 1949 Vernon moved to Waikato as there was no school at Hokianga and worked on the hydro-electric development.
Vernon and his family lived in Te Puke for two years, Matahina for six years and moved to Papamoa in 1966.
Until his retirement in 1974 he was employed by the Ministry of Works in Tauranga. He liked to collect gemstones.
Vernon married Emily Adelaide RUSSELL on 17 Mar 1931 in Hokianga, New Zealand. (Emily Adelaide RUSSELL died in Aug 1981.)
