His widow wrote in 1940.
"His family lived in Malvern, Evendine was a hamlet and that was where Uncle Walter was born, the reason I have called my bungalow Evendine. He was commander R.N.R., not decorated but had the war medals as all did who were at sea at that time I believe. He carried despatches and was in th convoys carrying troops from Australia. retired from the merchant navy in 1917 when Governorship of R.M.S.O. was offered him. He was also a Younger Brother of the Trinity House - died Sept 26th 1925".
