bullet  General Notes:

Charles Clement Corfield became a Bengal Army Cadet in 1824, He was posted as an Ensign to 69th NI (Native Infantry), and became a Lieut in 1826. He transferred to 47th NI in 1828, and to the Magh Sebundy Corps, March 1831; and adjutant, 47th NI from 22nd July 1834 - 19th January 1839.
Charles served in the First Sikh War (1845-46) and was at the battles of Aliwal, 28th January 1846 and Sobraon, 10th February; and was poromoted to Capt. 47th NI, awarded a medal and clasp. Charles was promoted to Major on 19th June 1846, 47th Bengal NI, and later became Lieut-Col, going on leave from 18th September 1850 until his retirement. He retired on 3rd November 1852 and travelled to England with his wife, Mary. Charles was gazetted Hon Lieut-Col on 28th November 1854 and returned to India briefly serving in the British Forces during the Indian Mutiny. He returned to England again, having been awarded some medals. He retired to 2 Bedford Gardens, Camden Hill, London.
He may have died in 1883 (Justin Corfield)
