bullet  General Notes:

Born in his mother's uncle's house in Beaminster and named after him.
Major in the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
His family were told that he died of wounds received at the storming of Martinique in the West Indies.
His sword was in the possession of his nephew William Corfield of Penryn in 1873.
His portrait, a miniature, was in the possession of his nephew T.J.T Corfield of St. Day.

He joined his father's former regiment, 23rd Foot, as 2nd Lieutenant ,1st December 1804; being promoted to lieutenant 31st October 1805 and captain 7th January 1809.

However in the diary by Thomas Henry Browne, also of the 23rd Foot, published in 1987,the entry of 29th December 1808 says:" The regiment had been in Barbados...., and lost many men and officers by the fever....This sort of life continued for about five days when one morning we heard that an Officer of the Light Company, Lieut Corfield, a fine, helathy, active young man, had been taken ill a few hours before. At noon he ws worse, and his head shaved. Before sunset he had died"
