James Corfield was convicted of stealing 3 oak poles and sentenced to 7 years hard labour on 7th July 1828. He was sent to Shrewsbury prison and then deported to Australia. He arrived in Tasmania in April 1829 on the "Georgina".
After his release he went to Victoria in 1838.
After his marriage to Margaret Bennett he changed his name to Carfield.

Aug 26 1834: Being at Kangaroo Point with a pass [Released]
