Richard Corfield entered the army as a lieutenant in the 23rd Foot (Royal Welsh Fusiliers). This regiment saw action in the Seven Years War (1756-1763) in Germany where they had been sent to secure British/Hanoverian and Prussian interests. Richard married Susannah WILMOT, daughter of William Henry WILMOT and Unknown, on 4 Nov 1765 in St Luke, Finsbury, Middlesex. (Susannah WILMOT was born on 3 May 1745 and died on 17 Jul 1801.)
5th November according to Justin Corfield Richard next married Mary VEALE on 2 Jun 1803 in St Felicitas, Phillack, Cornwall. (Mary VEALE died on 6 Jun 1832.)
