Charles Henry CORFIELD
- Born: 1832
- Marriage: Margaret SENIOR in 1864
- Died: 19 Jun 1918, Mildura, Australia. at age 86
General Notes:
Charles Henry Corfield emigrated to Australia on the "Mary Harrison" which arrived in Port Philip (Melbourne) in August 1852. He was described on the ship's manifest as an artist. Charles and Margaret moved to Talbot before their marriage and by 1886 they were running a general store. Thier reason for moving to what is now a only a small town was due to a local gold rush there. In 1870 a post office was opened in the nearby town of Dunach . Charles took over as Postmaster in 1872, operating out of the Duke of Edinburgh hotel. It appears tht the licence of the hotel was held in his wife's name until her death. Charles ran the Post Office until at least 1899. The building burnt down in 1906 after which Charles and his family converted the residential section of the Union Hotel which served as the post office and general store until 1917. Charles became too "old and wandery" to be left alone and moved in with his son Thomas in Mildura. Probable child of George and Diana Corfield
Charles married Margaret SENIOR, daughter of John SENIOR and Isabella SHARPE, in 1864. (Margaret SENIOR died in 1880 and was buried on 13 Jul 1880 in Amherst, Australia..)
