Edward Caruthers Corfield was educated at Westminster School from 1888-89 and St Bartholomews Hospital gaining his M.R.C.S.Eng , L.C.R.P., and L.S.A. in 1897.
In 1902 Caruthers, he had dropped the name Edward, was Civil Surgeon at Herbert Hospital, Woolwich. and later moved to Rustington, Sussex.
He wrote the "Handbook of Medical Terms" in 1914 and a history of the lost village of Cudlow in Sussex..
Caruthers retired soon after his wife's death and wrote numerous letters to "The Times" .
